Minutes

8.19.03

Eddie Martin, KI4ZJ called the meeting to order at 8:  pm.

Attendance:             10 Members

                           1 Visitor

                           7 Officers, Board Members

Introductions were made and our new member, Tom Maxfield, KG4RNO was welcomed.

The Minutes of the last meeting were accepted as posted on SARAClub.org. Motion was made by Fritz, N4DPF and seconded by Don Vande Polder, N3VP.

Hans Napfel reminded us of the upcoming programs:

Sept - Hans Nepfel, WB2ZZB – Slide show from his Alaska trip

Oct   -  Herman Birkner, W2FHR – Electronic Circuits

Nov – General discussion concerning Broadband over Power Lines

Charles Michael, KD4TMS reported that we have lost our date for the Hamfest at Robarts; therefore there will not be one.

Bill Anderson, WB4TSH announced that the small Tampa Hamfest will be 8.19.03.

Vivia Martin, KB4KEK asked that everyone put thinking caps on concerning a location for the Holiday Dinner. A restaurant with a piano would be perfect, as Danny Zirpoli, N4ZPP, has volunteered to play for us. (The SARA 12 Days of Christmas would certainly sound better!)

Last month was a busy month for some of our members, below are a few “happenings”:

·          While in the NC Mountains, one member ran into some hams and had an unbelievable time transmitting from there and making new buddies

·          One participated in a Teletype contest

·          A pool cage was rigged up as an antenna - and it worked! !

·          After cleaning “marmalade” from a generator, it hummed away

·          We all got to see a 1931 ARRL Handbook – we were almost afraid to touch it, very fragile, but in excellent condition

·          Squeak (the Field Day rat) and Bob Miller, KF4JRO have made it “big time” and are on the ARRL website with their picture and story

Bob Miller, KF4JRO discussed an article from QST concerning Opti (??) Ground systems.

Bill Anderson, KB4TSH gave a presentation on the newly acquired bandwidth on 60 meters. There are pros and cons, but we hams are glad to get it. The last bandwidth we were granted use of was July 3, 1989.

Eddie Martin, KI4ZJ announced that there would be no Board Meeting.

Vivia Martin, KB4KEK, made a motion that was seconded by Fritz, N4DPF that we adjourn the meeting.

Meeting adjourned by Eddie Martin, KI4ZJ at 9:13 pm

Respectfully Submitted,

Vivia Martin, KB4KEK, Treas. for Elmer Dickson, KE4NYN, Sec.
