S.A.R.A. General Meeting

Eddie Martin, KI4ZJ. called the meeting to order at 8:02 pm.

 

 

Attendance:    6  Members

                       4 Visitors

                       5 Officers, Board Members      

 

Introductions were made and our guests were welcomed.

 

Don Vande Polder made a motion that the minutes from the last meeting be accepted as read. Bill Anderson seconded the motion. Motion carried.

 

Don Vande Polder reminded us of the upcoming programs:

                    Nov – General discussion concerning Broadband over Power Lines

                    Dec – No meeting, Holiday Dinner

                    Jan – Steve Padar will discuss Weather and Computers

 

Don Vander Polder made the announcement that the Holiday Dinner would be at the Mel-O-Dee Restaurant on North Tamiami Trail. Vivia Martin is to mail out information announcements and take care of the RSVP’s.  We have to get a “head count” and dinner choice to the restaurant no later than December 10.

 

Don Vander Polder suggested we have the Board Meeting at 7:30 on the night of the General Meeting. To have it afterward makes for a long, late night. All Officers and Board Members present agreed to the new time. Vivia Martin to call Fritz to inform him.

 

HAM Happenings:

Entertaining on a cruise ship

Dropping equipment and finding that equipment and cement just don’t mix

A British Columbia contact was made using 100MW

Visitors had fun playing with their new GSP, tracking themselves from Boston to Sarasota

 

The Basic Rules of Ham Radio Review:

Can you have a QSL in a foreign language?   Yes

Can you give your USA call letters in a foreign language?  No

Is the Auto Patch considered 3rd party traffic?  Yes  

Why? The person on the phone may not be a licensed Ham operator.

Is identification required for auto patch? No (It is a common courtesy practice)

Why? Identification is required only every 10 minutes.

 

Herman Birkner had a great presentation on Simple Electronic Circuits. Handouts of formulas of Ohm’s Law, Power Law, Power Transfer and Resisters were given so we all could follow along. He also had a “hands on” 1-watt transmitter to check the formulas. They all were correct.

 

A motion was made by Don Vande Polder and seconded by Danny Zirpoli to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried.

 

Meeting adjourned at 9:24PM by Eddie Martin.
